Hi I’m Helen Rutherford, an accredited therapist and clinical supervisor with a deep commitment to supporting practitioners in their personal and professional growth. I work integratively, drawing from a range of therapeutic approaches to tailor supervision to your individual needs, learning style, and practice.
As the founder of Emotional Respite Disability Counselling Service, I have dedicated my career to providing inclusive, accessible, and affirming support for disabled and chronically ill clients and those working with them. I understand the challenges your clients may face whilst appreciating the complexity of supporting individuals in this demographic.

I graduated in 2009 and have worked with students, charities, and professionals in the healthcare and charity sectors, offering therapy and supervision that fosters self-awareness, ethical practice, and professional confidence. I particularly support those whose work focuses on individuals with disabilities, chronic illness, or long-term health conditions. Since 2014, I have worked in Telemental Health, providing online therapy and supervision, which has deepened my understanding of accessibility, therapeutic presence, and connection in digital spaces.
My supervision approach is informed by Hawkins and Shohet’s seven-eyed process model, ensuring a holistic and reflective experience. This model encourages exploration of different aspects of the therapeutic process, including the client, therapist, supervisory relationship, and wider systemic influences. I provide a collaborative, supportive, and appropriately challenging space where you can develop your skills, explore your practice, and grow in confidence as a practitioner.
